Dates/Time: Saturdays April 15 and 22 from 10:30AM to 12:30PM

Teaching Artist: Adam*

Location: In person and indoors/outdoors at SPARC

Grades: 6th to 12th

From Kahlo to Van Gogh, everyone has a favorite painting. In this two-weekend workshop, learn the painting and planning skills needed to recreate a masterpiece of your choice! In the first class, participants will learn how to scale their chosen work of art from a printed version on paper and sketch it onto a larger canvas. Then, it's time for color! Youth will practice paint application and technique during both classes, so it's important to wear clothes you don't mind getting messy.

When the workshop ends, each participant will have a canvas to take home, featuring their new work of art. Skills emphasized in this class translate well to scenic painting for larger settings, like understanding scale, following a plan, color theory, and brush techniques. SPARC will provide all necessary supplies.

Location: In-person at SPARC

Learn the basic techniques needed to create out-of-this-world looks for the stage in this two-weekend fantasy makeup workshop. To start, youth will recreate looks from popular shows known for their unique uses of makeup. We’ll pull inspiration from musicals like Beetlejuice, The Lion King, Wicked, Cats, The Little Mermaid, and more! Then in week two, participants will plan and create their own makeup designs, trying new applications of their skills from week one.

This makeup workshop will involve practicing makeup on one’s own face rather than on a model. Be prepared to get a little messy, though SPARC will provide makeup wipes and time to clean up after class. Makeup and application tools are also included in the cost of this workshop. Youth will keep their makeup kits to take home for future practice and projects!.
