After a two-year hiatus, Showstoppers is back by popular demand! This class is the ideal choice for young people who are ready to commit to a more rigorous musical theatre-based rehearsal and performance process. Students in this class will meet for an hour-and-a-half twice a week from September to March (not including a prolonged winter break). During that time, the cast of Showstoppers will learn skills like audition preparation, rehearsal etiquette, behind-the-scenes artistry, and – of course – they’ll learn their show! In doing so, elements of performance like acting, scene work, memorization, choral singing, solo/small group singing, and dance will be heavily emphasized. Students will understand and practice singing in parts (harmony and melody). Youth will identify the roles of a director, music director, and choreographer as part of a rehearsal and performance practice. The curriculum of this class also includes developing communication and collaboration skills for the theatre like dependability, cooperation, and teamwork.

Showstoppers will present this year’s title, The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Jr., in the spring for an audience of family and friends. This musical adaptation of the beloved story is full of colorful characters and features an upbeat score. Stanley Lambchop is your ordinary, everyday ten-year-old until the bulletin board on the wall above his bed comes loose and falls right on top of him. The next morning, Stanley wakes up flat. In a whirlwind musical travelogue, Stanley scours the globe for a solution to his unusual problem. He's stamped, posted and sent from Hollywood and France to Honolulu and beyond, all in an effort to become a three-dimensional boy once more.
